Google Calendar

I just started using Google’s Calendar application today. It’s fantastic. Check it out.

It’s intuitive and using it is very simple. My calendar reminded me about tomorrow’s assignment: A reflection on “The Diary of Anne Frank” (both the play and the movie), combined with their knowledge of their research topics using found poetry.

I’m going to bring in a bunch of old magazines and newspapers tomorrow and have the kids use them to write poems in reaction to the reading, the viewing, and the research. We’ll post them on the walls. Maybe we’ll post them in the hallways. I don’t know yet.

Check out Doug’s posts at Borderland concerning found poetry and found writing for more information.

  1. That calendar looks pretty handy. Thanks for pointing it out.

  3. I’ve been using localendar for a while now. Check that. I have HAD a localendar calendar for a while now. But I seldom update. It does not take exorbitant amounts of time to update it really, but I find it is waaaay too easy to slack up on, especially since the vast majority of my students don’t check the class webpage, and I have my weekly plans in Word. Would you say this is a tool more for the teacher to him/herself? And how involved and easy to keep up with is the updating?

  4. Looks like both localendar and google calendar both have their benefits. Google’s is really simple to update, simple to share, simple to use for group collaboration.

Localendar looks like it has the option to add images to events (something that might just be necessary for our students), but more importantly it has the option to add the calendar to a website. Can’t do that with Google calendar, which puts all the work in the teacher’s hands.
