Self-described “teacher-nerd,” nani is the first entrant in Contest #1 over at Think, Pair, Share
Check out her Inquiry-themed unit which asks students the following difficult questions:
- What shapes identity?
- How do we develop values?
- How do texts help us understand identity?
Nani’s questions are wonderfully tailored to a teenage audience (but could likely be used at any grade level), lead toward a unit with a variety of texts and films, and like any good inquiry unit, allow for the teacher to meet a number of curricular goals.
And the really cool thing about nani’s plan: It’s open ended. It’s not so structured that a teacher can’t amend it to fit his/her classroom. At one point, she even writes:
…3. Craft a genre-specific piece of writing (memoir, narrative, essay–haven’t decided yet!).
Good job, nerd!
Check out the comments section at Think, Pair, Share to see the rest of nani’s Inquiry unit. And remember: there’s still time to enter your own lesson-plans.

I like this idea. I like it a lot. When school is out for me I will eagerly participate. One more week. (onemoreweek)
Hi,
Long time listener, first time caller. Dig the site. Didn’t realize there were so many first-year teaching blogs out there till I made one of my own. I would email you directly, but couldn’t find a contact page. Anyway, would love for you to check mine out and let me know what you think. Perhaps we could link to one another? I’m new to the game and could use feedback.
Best,
A Bronx Teacher

No problem, Bronx Teacher. I like the way you talk about every facet of teaching, and the fact you don’t censor yourself. You’re link’d!
