Calvin and Hobbes — the world’s greatest teachers

Surfing through Digg today led me to a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

A little digging through the comments led me to a searchable database of C&H comics.

Search for anything and you’ll find it. “School” brings up some bona-fide gems. If you’re looking for (one of my favorite Calvin incarnations) “Spaceman Spiff,” or just “Spiff,” you’ll find Calvin daydreaming his time through school.

I was looking for something fun to send to a colleague, so I sent her the following cartoon after searching for “math.”

If you have the time, post your own fave Calvin comics.

  1. I read your blog all the time, but never comment. Thanks for this gem of a database! I love C&H and now I can look for teacher-ish strips to use in my classroom (or on my blog for comic relief about my classes =)

  2. I just checked out your blog, and I love the strip you posted!

Thanks for commenting! (Now I get to watch what you’re doing as a “start-up” teacher.)

  3. Thanks for this database! I’m working on a project for my graduate class on visual literacy and I will be incorporating comics into this.

  4. The value of comics in the classroom is immeasurable, and underappreciated. That, and Calvin and Hobbes is the greatest cartoon of all time.
